Eligibility for Membership

Admission to membership in the NSDAR begins by contacting us.

Any woman 18 years of age or older is eligible for membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) if she can prove lineal descent from a man or woman who, with unfailing loyalty to the cause of American Independence, served as a sailor, or a soldier or civil officer in one of the several Colonies or States, or in the United Colonies or States or as a recognized patriot, or rendered material aid thereto.

NSDAR and its chapters may not discriminate against an eligible applicant based on race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Acceptable documentation includes birth, death, and marriage certificates, as well as other vital records for earlier generations where standard certificates may not exist.

She is accepted as a member of the National Society by the action of the National Board of Management. A DAR member is first a member of the National Society and through her chapter and state organization, she contributes her service to the collective strength and progress of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Membership

NSDAR has approximately 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and overseas.

Chapters overseas are located in Australia, Austria, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, France, Germany, Guam, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

More than 1,000,000 women have joined the DAR since it was founded.
